Dealing with copy errors can be costly and time-consuming, especially when it comes to mistakes in creative assets. The expenses skyrocket exponentially, requiring more design time, product recalls, customer refunds, etc. To prevent any copy errors from slipping through the cracks, here are 5 essential tips for you.

  • Invest in an excellent proofreading tool and use it. Sometimes, the investment is just as simple as ensuring you have spelling and grammar-checking features turned on in whatever program you’re using to write. If that’s too basic for you, tools such as Grammarly and ProWritingAid exist.

  • Make sure that all creative assets use the most up-to-date copy. Centralising documents and a good filing system can help with this. Establish file naming conventions so it’s easy to know which files can be archived (or deleted) and which are still active.

  • Create standardised templates for your creative assets. If there’s wording that you know will always appear in your designs, template them. It’s one less thing for you to proof.

  • Create a checklist that everyone involved in the creative process must follow.

  • Establish a system for double-checking work before it is released. This can include assigning a specific person to review the final asset design before it is shared widely.

You may not have the resources right now to implement all of these tips, but adopting just one can help you avoid major copy errors and unnecessary costs. Prevention is better than cure.
